Sanford Stadium, the on-campus venue for UGA Bulldog football in Athens, Georgia, is named after Dr. Steadman Vincent Sanford, an early major force behind UGA athletics. With a seating capacity of  92,746, it's the ninth-largest football stadium in the NCAA (and in the United States), and the 17th-largest in the world. Sanford arrived at the University of Georgia as an English instructor in 1903, later becoming the faculty representative to the athletics committee and eventually serving as the president of the university and chancellor of the entire University System of Georgia.

In the early years of football, Georgia faced one of our oldest rivals Georgia Tech in a series of controversial games. Due to the small size of the UGA field, Georgia had to travel to Tech's Grant Field in Atlanta annually. In 1927, after UGA's undefeated team lost 12–0 to Tech, allegedly because Tech watered the field all night to slow UGA's running backs, Sanford decided to "build a stadium bigger than Tech" and play the game in Athens every other year. The result is our current athletic battleground, roaring with excitement on game days, creating an unforgettable experience "between the hedges." Go Dawgs!

Jamie Calkin received his doctorate from the University of Georgia and was once on track to be a professor of Science Education. Inspired by the use of rich imagery as a teaching tool in the 1949 non-fiction book by American ecologist, forester, and environmentalist Aldo Leopold, "A Sand County Almanac", Calkin began creating and incorporating his own illustrations as an alternative way of learning. The new teaching style led Calkin to countless water-color and drawing classes. All the while developing his signature style - vibrant colors against a white background with loose black ink outlines. A "mostly self-taught artist" (his words), Calkin began selling his playful renditions of Athens landmarks in 2001 - and today, expands to all of Georgia and beyond, painting scenes from other schools, cities, and various special locations, bringing local surroundings to life.
