Frank Saggus, the creator behind Wing Ding Constructions, is a 3D Mixed Media artist hailing from Watkinsville, Georgia. He is known for his unique and functional birdhouses crafted from salvaged lumber and found objects.

Saggus has a knack for transforming ordinary materials into extraordinary works of art.  A vintage shoe form, a door knob, an old flag holder, a dated golf club, perhaps a mannequin hand or a pencil sharpener might be repurposed as a playful perch waiting for a bird to come along. Each of his birdhouses is a one-of-a-kind creation, reflecting his passion for sustainability and creativity. His materials are, “usually scored at antique stores, flea markets, yard sales or literally picked up off the street.” He tells us that, “building birdhouses gives me an excuse to do three things that I have loved to do since I was a kid - tear stuff up, put it back together and dig around in other folks’ “trash”.”

His journey began by building his first birdhouse from lumber salvaged from a hay barn on his grandpa’s property, combined with various items from his grandfather's workshop. Exhausting that initial supply, he has since been on the lookout for houses or barns being torn down or falling down, scavenging the lumber he needs. According to Frank, “family vacations are now focused on visiting flea markets and similar venues” where he hunts for interesting or unusual items to incorporate into his artwork.

While Frank Saggus is based in Watkinsville, GA his creations have gained attention far beyond Georgia, captivating art enthusiasts and bird lovers alike. Through Wing Ding Constructions, Saggus has found a way to blend artistry with environmental consciousness, creating whimsical and functional pieces that bring joy to both birds and humans alike.
